Why We Built This Site
South Carolina makes many criminal records public, yet access depends on finding the right holder. The Lexington County Detention Bureau maintains current county custody data. Courts preserve charges, docket events, judgments, and sentences. SLED runs the fingerprint-supported statewide repository, while SCDC tracks state-prison custody and SORT supplies separate registry information. This site brings the verified office contacts, government search links, request steps, and published fees into one Lexington County resource.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: verified routes to the sheriff, Lexington County courts, and statewide record systems
- Record guides: practical instructions for finding and reading criminal court case files
- Official checks: the different roles of SLED name checks and authorized fingerprint checks
- Record cleanup: where eligible South Carolina expungement matters begin
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of a South Carolina court, police department, sheriff's office, or state agency. Those boundaries matter:
- We do not issue certified court files, rap sheets, or other official records
- We cannot submit an expungement petition or public-records request for a visitor
- We do not run official background checks or retrieve a person's criminal record
- We cannot interpret a charge or provide advice about an individual case
- We cannot promise that an agency's hours, address, or fee will never change
An official copy must come from its issuing court, the sheriff, or SLED. This site identifies the source but cannot issue the document.
Search Partners
Outside providers operate search boxes that appear on some pages. They control their services, results, and prices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee that supports this free resource. We do not set the provider's charges or determine which results it returns.
