Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A third-party provider receives and processes the name or location entered into a search tool. The query is sent to that provider to produce results; we do not retain a log of those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be kept long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The referring website, when supplied
- The device's assigned IP address
- Approximate time spent on a page
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that support traffic measurement, including which pages are used most and where visits end. Analytics services combine that activity into reports. A browser can reject cookies, though blocking them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Finding and repairing performance or technical problems
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Operating and securing the website
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Lexington County Criminal History does not keep, combine, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official sources such as the sheriff, criminal courts, SLED's Computerized Criminal History repository, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry Tool. Visitor information is not assembled into third-party criminal profiles or consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information submitted through those tools. Review a provider's policy before sending a query because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Lexington County offices, court portals, SLED, legal-aid resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check it before providing personal data.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance
- Search partners chosen to process a submitted query
- Advertising networks that serve page ads
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A report that a minor supplied data will be reviewed so the information can be removed where appropriate.
Your Data Rights
Available rights depend on the law where a visitor lives. South Carolina also restricts commercial solicitation with personal information obtained from government records under S.C. Code §30-2-50. A visitor may ask to:
- Opt out of processing when a governing law provides that choice
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of eligible information
- Receive a copy of personal data held about the requester
