How to Check Criminal History in Cayce

These sources update on different schedules. A city report may exist before a booking or case appears online. A CATCH entry can also lag when fingerprints or a court disposition have not yet matched.

A Cayce Address Is Not an Agency

Cayce adjoins West Columbia and Columbia and includes major transport corridors. City officers, state troopers, and neighboring departments may all create records tied to an address described as Cayce. The mailing city therefore does not identify the correct custodian. The agency name or badge on the document controls the report request, while the citation names the court.

This routing check prevents a common failure: asking Cayce Police for a record made by another agency or searching Lexington County for a matter that belongs across the county line.

Chief Bruce Wade is the current chief, with a published direct number of 803-550-9556. No official native Cayce Police records app was found. Use the city contact and written-request channels instead.

Written requests may be sent in person, by mail, fax, or email to policefoia@caycesc.gov. The city states a ten-working-day determination period. That notice tells the requester whether the agency will provide or withhold the record, but it is not always the production itself. Certain recent reports about the nature, location, and substance of a crime may be available without a written FOIA request.

That separation matters when tracing a case. A booking charge is the allegation entered at intake. It may later be amended, dismissed, or replaced by the prosecutor's filed charge. Read the final court disposition before drawing any conclusion.

Current custody and court status are separate. A release does not end the case, and an open case does not prove current detention. Follow the citation or bond paper to the named court after the custody check.

Bench trials are listed for Tuesday at 8 a.m. and Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Confirm the schedule before relying on it. Warrant questions route to police at 803-794-0456 rather than to an unverified online list.

Cayce Court Counter Fallback

A Cayce municipal matter may not appear in the statewide Public Index. The city does not advertise a public case-search portal, so the direct court inquiry is essential. Give the clerk the citation or case number, full name, and hearing or disposition date. Ask whether the matter remains municipal, was remanded to the city, or moved into the General Sessions court of the proper county.

Do not treat an empty web search as a no-record result. Browser limits, municipal participation, spelling, and filing time can all affect what appears. If a case was indicted in Lexington County, the case number ordinarily uses county code 32. A Richland County prosecution follows that county's court index instead.

For proof of outcome, request a certified disposition. A search screen may help locate the matter, but it is not a clerk-authenticated judgment.

Cayce's 1914 charter and its location around old Fort Granby reflect a long municipal identity that predates today's two-county record split. Modern searchers still have to follow the agency and venue printed on each record.

Public Access Rules

South Carolina's open-records law applies to Cayce public business, but access has limits. The Police Department can redact or withhold juvenile information, victim-identifying details, medical material, protected personal data, and material whose release would interfere with an active investigation or endanger someone. Court sealing, expungement, and other confidentiality laws can also override general access.
